Safety Interactions

Safety Interactions are a powerful tool to build culture through visible, proactive engagement between leadership and the workforce.

Often referred to as ‘Safety Observations’ or ‘Safety Engagements,’ Safety Interactions are comparable with ‘behavioural safety’ processes in that they address people’s actions in the workplace, aiming to increase safe behaviours and reduce shortcuts and unsafe acts.  LJM’s approach to Safety Interactions goes beyond, by developing people’s knowledge and perceptions, building commitment and better managing risks.

Engaging and risk focused

LJM’s Safety Interactions process helps to:

  • Demonstrate leadership commitment and set clear expectations
  • Improve risk awareness and personal ownership for safety
  • Encourage people to think about the consequences of their actions
  • Recognise and encourage positive behaviours
  • Get commitment to improve work practices and reduce risk taking
  • Drive continual learning and improvement in how work is done

A real culture change tool

Your organisation would benefit from LJM’s Safety Interactions process if:

  • Processes are developed on paper, but lack effectiveness in the workplace
  • Shortcuts and risk-taking are contributing to incidents and injuries
  • Line managers could be better involved in leading safety
  • Improving safety as a path to better planning, communication, efficiency and effectiveness

Safety Interactions help to create a stronger and more resilient safety cultures, so that people plan well, effectively manage risks and seek better ways to work.  The outcomes extend beyond safety, helping to create better business outcomes.
